VICTORIA B.C. (Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ territories) November 15, 2023 – Accent Inns has teamed up with the BC Humane Society to brighten the holidays for animals in need by hosting a series of heartwarming Howliday events across British Columbia and raising vital funds for their care during the society's most challenging period for animal welfare in two decades.
This Howliday season, the BC Humane Society's adorable animals will be touring the province, making special stops at Accent Inns hotels in Kamloops, Kelowna, Burnaby, and Victoria. Pet enthusiasts are warmly invited to join these delightful free puppy playdates December 5-8, 2023, where they can meet the cuddly companions and discover how to become foster parents, adopt or donate through the BC Humane Society. In addition, as the pet-friendliest of hotel brands, all Accent Inns lobbies will offer free Howliday photo opportunities all December long.
Mandy Farmer, CEO of Accent Inns, expressed, "The tremendous success of last year's Howlidays event not only uplifted the BC Humane Society, our hotels, and our communities but also generated over $10,000 in support by donating a percentage of funds during seasonal hotel stays. We are excited to expand the initiative, providing the BC Humane Society with more avenues to reach potential foster families across BC and raise even more essential funds for the well-being of these animals this season."
In the wake of recent challenges, including an alarming surge in surrendered animals and overpopulation concerns in remote BC regions, the situation has become critical. Penny Stone, Executive Director at BC Humane Society, remarked, "This is the most pressing situation we've faced in two decades. With an influx of 'pandemic pets' abandoned during the stay-at-home years and an increasing number of unlicensed breeders relinquishing entire litters, fostering is an urgent need to provide these dogs with the care they deserve until permanent homes can be found. Right now, we have an unprecedented number of puppies in our care: over 1,000 dogs and puppies have gone through our doors this year alone!"
Looking to surpass 2022 donations, to further support the BC Humane Society's crucial efforts, Accent Inns will be donating ten percent of every leisure stay in December directly to the society. These funds will contribute to vital veterinary care, pet supplies, and licensing support for the rescued animals.
